Orlando-Our first family vacation

After an awesome week at camp, we drove 10 hours to Orlando, for 'vacation'.  Really, B had a conference for CBS and we tagged along to just have fun.  The conference was at the Gaylor Palms Resort in Orlando and we arrived at this massive hotel around 9:15 pm.  It was Eastern time, so it felt like 8:15 our time.  We must have been really tired because we all slept til 9 am Sunday morning.  We didn't have any food in the hotel room and room service was WAY to expensive, so we headed down the street to IHOP.  After eating breakfast we went to Publix to buy a few groceries for the week in the hotel room. Finally we made it back to the hotel and joined the Parle's at the pool.  Joe was already in a meeting, but Suzan was there with Faith and Lil' Joe.  We played at the pool for a few hours, then went back to the room to rest.  B had a session at 5, so I chilled with the kids in the room and fed them dinner.  Once B got out of his session, we changed into our swim suits and headed to the pool for a movie.  They showed Frozen on the big screen and the kids watched it from the pool.  It was another late night, but it's vacation!

Monday B left before any of the kids were awake, but after eating breakfast, the kids and I met Suzan and her kids at the pool.  This pool had a 3 story spray-ground and 4 water slides off the back.  It was hours and hours of entertainment.  We watched the fish feeding at 1:00 inside the atrium of the hotel.  We at lunch in the hotel room and had rest time.  Monday evening we went with the Parle's to Downtown Disney.  We ate at Wolfgang Puck Express and did a little shopping before hitting the dance party.  The DJ was awesome and we danced for 2 hours.  After the dance party, we headed back to the hotel and Rin spent the night with Faith and Joe stayed with us.  The kids had a great time and it was fun to let the kids have a sleep-over with friends.

Tuesday we did the whole pool and lunch thing again.  After rest we walked around the atrium looking for the hidden panthers waiting for the alligator feeding.  The gator feeding was so cool to watch, but pretty crowded.  We shared pizza with the Parle's and got froyo then watched Paddington Bear at the pool. I was starting to feel a little sad because I knew vacation was ending:(

Wednesday morning was spent packing and getting ready to leave.  The kids and I took a load down to the van, and then finished the panther prowl.  B got out of his session and finished loading up the van and we left around 11 am.  Our goal was to make it back to Hattiesburg, by way of Spanish Fort to see Bubba.  He had bowling league but he was able to order food for us so when we arrived, we sat down to eat.  I had friend pickles and they were VERY good.  It was really good to see him and the kids loved hanging on Uncle Bubba.  We got to Hattiesburg late, but we were used to keeping late nights for the past 2 weeks.

Planet Civitan 2015

Our favorite summer activity is Civitan Camp, and this year the Theme was Planet Civitan- Outta this world!  W was old enough to be a staff brat so we would have 3 of the 4 kids with us for a few days.

B and I had to move in Saturday morning.  I was an area parent at Native Village and B was the crew captain of the Hang Out (pool).  We were both excited about our positions and being back at NV together.  Most of Saturday was spent catching up with camp family and orientation meetings.  Counselors arrived and we ended the night with ice cream.  B and I found a little time to look at the stars down at the camp fire (one of our favorite places at camp).  Sunday all our campers came and it was so exciting.  It's one of the best days (they are all best days) to experience when parents drive through the gates and our friends are greeted with cheers and screams of excitement.  NV had 14 wonderful boys this year and each of them were great for us.

I need to document my time with Ian.  From day one, Ian called me mom and insisted that I wake him in the morning and tuck him in at night.  It was such a great feeling and I enjoyed being his camp mom for the week.  I could never replace any of the boys' moms, but I will do everything I can to be the best camp mom they could ever have.  Ian was super sweet and made me feel so special.  His mom left notes for each day Ian was away, so during afternoon rest time, we would read his notes together in his cabin and pray for his family.  I hope my own children pray for me while they are away from me.  I could share stories about each of our 14 boys that we had at Native Village, but it would be way too long of a post.

Rin, Abe, and Wes loved camp, just like we knew they would.  They joined us Monday afternoon and stayed with us through Thursday evening.  The boys stayed in the cabin with B and R slept in my bed with me.  One of the kids favorites to be around for the week was Al.  Al was so funny and played so well with the kids.  They woke up looking for Al, and Al was the last one they wanted to see before going to bed.  I look forward to many more years of camp with my very own kids.

B and I got to go back for one day of Adult Week.  We used to work both weeks, but since having kids and B changing jobs, we've had to scale back to 1 week.  If B ever got back to being a professor and having summers completely off, we would go back to working both week.  My two favorites of all times are adults now: Clayton and Kevin.  I leave a piece of my heart with them every year!
